MY FUTURE CAREER PLANS!

In the future I aspire to take my passion and professional music experience forward and apply this to a career in Music Therapy. I want to work BOTH with young people who might have anixety about learning an instrument and support them to reach their musical goals but ALSO with young people who are experiencing mental health difficulties who would benefit from music therapy to help them with their challenges. The title of Music Therapist is protected by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a master’s qualification is required to practice professionally. I plan to begin my accredited master’s degree in music therapy in September 2027 following the completion of my music performance degree. Upon successful completion of my masters, I will be able to register with the HCPC to practice music therapy and join the British Association for Music Therapists (BAMT), first as a trainee and then as a practitioner. When qualified I hope to practice within the NHS and local authorities (including schools and youth centres) to provide licensed music therapy sessions. I aspire to create positive change in people’s (with a focus on children and young people) wellbeing through their engagement in live musical sessions. I will build strong relationships with people I support showcasing my skills on a range of instruments (including vocals, guitar, bass) and also a bit in music production and technology. Together we will create music and live performance in which young people can develop their own musical language to explore, connect with the world, and express themselves in a way that feels authentic to them. Young people can often struggle with expressing themselves and as an individual with ASD, Depression, ADHD among many more mental health traits, music has helped me get through the worst that life has thrown at me and I think that music therapy can be especially powerful when emotions are too overwhelming or complex to put into words. Whether someone has difficulty communicating or simply finds that words aren’t enough, music offers another way to be heard and understood.

I want to support people of all ages. I will draw on my natural musicality, sense and passion for music and love for a wide range of musical styles including: Rock 'N' Roll, Ska, Metal, Punk, Pop-Rock, Jazz among many more to create interactions that are sensitive, appropriate, and meaningful. I am happy to work both one-to-one and in group settings and also provide support to youth centres and community project working with young people who might be experiencing challenenges. If you have a community project that might need support please reach out to me via my contacts page.

I am really passionate that everyone should have access to music - not matter what their experiences are in life. There should be no barriers to participation in arts and music (financial or emotional) and I am happy to get involved in volunteer and community arts projects. I would like to create a system where young people who want to learn an instrument don't feel worry or stress or intimidated based on things lack lack of access to formal music training or qualifications (theory / reading music). Instead they feel comfortable taking part. I am a self taught musician so I have the ability to teach in an accessible way. I will aim to create strong bonds with the young people I work with and be flexible. Let's say you're feeling sad, I would recommend learning some happy Ska music to heighten dopamine levels. If you were feeling angry I would recommend an angsty punk track or metal to release that pent up energy.

I have experienced these emotions and I understand the power that music has to help us process and regulate them. My aim - to be a beacon to people who are lost in the world, especially the world of music and mental health.
